Chapter One: Introduction
1.1 Background of the Study
Adolescence is a critical period in human development marked by significant physical, emotional, and social changes. Health practices during this stage, including diet, exercise, mental health, and sexual health, can have long-lasting effects on individuals' well-being. In Wase Local Government Area, Plateau State, adolescents are increasingly turning to digital media for information about health, lifestyle, and well-being. Platforms like YouTube, Instagram, and health-related blogs have become popular sources for advice and guidance. This study aims to explore the influence of digital media on adolescent health practices in Wase, focusing on how digital content affects their health choices, behaviors, and attitudes toward various health issues.
1.2 Statement of the Problem
While digital media offers adolescents easy access to health information, not all the content available online is accurate or beneficial. Misinformation, misleading advertisements, and harmful health trends can negatively affect adolescent health behaviors. In Wase, there is limited research on how digital media specifically influences the health practices of local adolescents. This study seeks to investigate how digital media shapes adolescent health behaviors, the risks associated with online health information, and the potential of digital media as a tool for promoting healthy practices among adolescents.
